
David W. Hinson, FAIA
R. Hugh Daniel Professor, Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Studies, Auburn University
David Hinson has been a member of the faculty of the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape Architecture at Auburn University since 1997. Hinson was appointed Associate Dean for Research & Graduate Programs for the College of Architecture, Design and Construction in April of 2022, and awarded the R. Hugh Daniels Endowed Professorship in the Fall of 2022.
Hinson’s teaching focus has included design studio, lecture courses in professional practice, building technologies, and seminars on leadership and collaborative practice. In 2001, Hinson established the award-winning DESIGNhabitat Program, an ongoing collaboration between Auburn University and Habitat for Humanity that focuses on innovative strategies for affordable housing design and construction. He is the co-author of two books on affordable housing design solutions developed by professional architects for Habitat for Humanity: Designed for Habitat: Collaborations with Habitat for Humanity, (Routledge, 2013) and Designed for Habitat: New Directions for Habitat for Humanity (Routledge, 2023.)
Hinson’s efforts in the studio and classroom have earned him regional and national acclaim, including an ACSA Distinguished Professor Award in 2022, the AIA Alabama Gold Medal in 2021, and election to the AIA College of Fellows in 2008.
Hinson is a founding Partner of Hinson + Dagg Architects, LLC. The firm has earned state and national recognition for their innovative design practice based in Auburn, Alabama.
Hinson holds a Master of Architecture (1983) from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Bachelor of Architecture (1982) from Auburn University.
